We’re inching ever closer to what should be an excellent game between the Falcons and the Packers on Sunday Night Football. It’s an early-season match-up between two NFC contenders, and the game could have far-reaching consequences for playoff seeding down the line. Needless to say, stakes are high, and the atmosphere for the first game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium should be electric.
Unfortunately, there are these pesky things called injuries that seem to always keep teams from playing at full strength. The Packers were very banged up—particularly in the receiving corps—when these two teams last faced each other. Let’s take a look at the health of Atlanta and Green Bay heading into their prime-time match-up.
Falcons Injury Report
RB Brian Hill (Ankle)
LB/S Kemal Ishmael (Hamstring)
C Alex Mack (Back)
T Austin Pasztor (Chest)
LB Duke Riley (Knee)
TE Eric Saubert
Atlanta is once again relatively healthy heading into Sunday’s game. The only player that may not be able to suit up is RB Brian Hill, who was limited all week and is still recovering from an ankle injury he suffered during the preseason. LB/S Kemal Ishmael was also limited all week, but as he is unlisted his game status doesn’t appear to be in question.
T Austin Pasztor appears to be nearly recovered from his pectoral injury, as he was able to practice fully all week. C Alex Mack was limited on Wednesday, but was able to practice fully on Thursday and Friday. LB Duke Riley and TE Eric Saubert both were limited on Wednesday and Thursday, but were able to return to full participation on Friday.
Packers Injury Report
T Jason Spriggs (Hamstring)
LB Ahmad Brooks (Concussion)
DT Montravius Adams (Foot)
LT David Bakhtiari (Hamstring)
S Kentrell Brice (Quadricep/Knee)
RT Bryan Bulaga (Ankle/Illness)
DT Mike Daniels (Hip)
The Packers are a little banged up heading into Sunday Night Football, particularly along the offensive line. Reserve T Jason Spriggs remains out with a hamstring injury after sitting out practice all week. Recently signed LB Ahmad Brooks was also unable to participate in practice, and is likely to sit. The Packers also have five players listed as questionable. Keep in mind, Green Bay normally gives players Friday off and instead practices on Saturday, so the participation designations are estimates at this point.
Starting RT Bryan Bulaga was unable to participate on Wednesday and Thursday, but it’s estimated that he would have been upgraded to limited Friday. Both LT David Bakhtiari and DT Montravius Adams were limited throughout the week. S Kentrell Brice and DT Mike Daniels were both added to the injury report on Thursday as being limited, and would have been limited on Friday as well.
What are your thoughts on the health of these two teams heading into Week 2? Any concerns for the Falcons? Do you think the Packers’ OL injuries could open up any additional opportunities for the Falcons’ defense?
