Falcons announce first batch of roster cuts, highlighted by former draft pick Akeem King

It’s not a surprising bunch, but let’s run it down.

The Altanta Falcons have officially announced their first batch of roster cuts, and based on that and what we’ve heard from reliable sources in the NFL media, it appears they’re about halfway to the number of cuts they’ll need to get to a 53 man roster.

It’s worth noting that there really aren’t any surprises here, though some of these players could hook on to the practice squad when all is said and done. Here’s the full, official list from the team.

That’s 14 names, and Akeem King (who was a seventh round pick), Andreas Knappe (a semi-hyped UDFA) and Anthony Dable (a talented French receiver) are the closest things we have to an actual surprise.

With the Falcons confirming they’re carrying two quarterbacks, Matt Simms should also be considered a cut. That puts us at 15, which means the Falcons are just about halfway to their total, and more names will trickle out before they make their official announcement tomorrow.

For what it’s worth, I’m betting Tialavea, Torgersen, and perhaps Jarnor Jones will make the practice squad one the dust settles.

What are your feelings on these cuts?
