B.J. Daniels was, briefly, a contender for the third running back job in Falcons camp. An injury has destroyed his chances of making the team, though, and now Atlanta has placed him on waivers.
The Falcons are working out power back David Cobb tomorrow, which makes perfect sense in light of the news. Devonta Freeman has a concussion and is probably out for the rest of preseason, which leaves only Tevin Coleman, Brian Hill, Terron Ward, Kelvin Taylor and perhaps Cobb if he’s signed for the remaining three games. Coleman is obviously not going to play much, given his importance to the offense, which means just three or four backs, all of whom are presumably competing for that third back gig. Unless the Falcons keep four, of course.
According to today's NFL Transactions, the Falcons waived RB BJ Daniels (hamstring) with an injury settlement. ... https://t.co/nYrJ1tTOYU

My money’s still on Hill, but Ward is going to push hard for a job, and I always did like Cobb. As for Daniels, his athleticism will probably allow him to land a job elsewhere whenever he’s healthy, but chances are he won’t be back in Atlanta. We wish him well, and we look forward to seeing the battle for the last one or two running back spots on the roster.
