Yesterday, Devonta Freeman left practice for reasons that originally seemed to be related to the heat. Today, we’ve learned that he’s apparently got a concussion, and the team has gone ahead and ruled him out for the second preseason game.

It goes to say that the Falcons held Freeman out of practice Monday, too. Concussions are a big deal, and from the team’s perspective, that’s especially true when it involves your star running back and the latest beneficiary of Arthur Blank’s fully upgraded wallet. It would probably be best for everyone involved if Freeman sat out at least the next two preseason games, if not the rest of preseason, to ensure he’s ready to go for the games that matter.
We wish Free well on his road to recovery here, and hopefully this proves His absence from preseason games likely means that Terron Ward, Brian Hill, B.J. Daniels and Kelvin Taylor will get many chances to impress in game action as they vie for the #3 job, if you’re looking for a small silver lining.
