The Falcons put together a draft class with considerable promise. I love Takkarist McKinley and Duke Riley, think Damontae Kazee and Eric Saubert could prove to be two of the of the steals of the class, and believe Brian Hill and Sean Harlow will be useful reserves, at worst.
That said, this is a stacked roster, and it’s possible that one of those players is not going to wind up making the team when final cuts roll in. While Saubert or Harlow could conceivably find themselves on the practice squad instead of the final roster, the most obvious choice at the moment is Brian Hill.
I say that as someone who believes in Hill’s talent. At the moment, though, he simply hasn’t been stellar through camp and did not fare nearly as well as Terron Ward in the first preseason game, so it’s something we have to at least consider. The Falcons may only keep three backs, and Ward is the incumbent, regardless of Hill’s draft status.
I still believe the entire five man draft class will wind up on the 53 man roster, but Hill’s one to watch. Whether he stays probably depends on how he performs the rest of the way and how likely the Falcons feel it is that another team would steal him away if they put him on waivers.
What say you?
