We have mentioned it before, but the only nagging injuries expected to reach into the 2017 season are the mental ones left over from the Super Bowl. Desmond Trufant, who just signed a nice deal for $69 million, is expected to start camp healthy.
D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has the news.
Trufant returned during the team’s mandatory minicamp and appears set to open training camp healthy.
Always good to see there were no setbacks. Sometimes a player will be healing slower than normal and they are never quite right during the season.
Also good news? New defensive coordinator (and former secondary coach) Marquand Manuel believes Trufant gained some leadership during rehab, likely from working with and motivating players through the rest of the season.
With Trufant returning to form, the Falcons have a super stacked secondary. Robert Alford, Ricardo Allen, Keanu Neal, Brian Poole, and Jalen Collins stepped up huge last season. Toss in a healthy, energized, and paid Trufant, and this defense can be amazing.
