Dontari Poe’s athleticism is still something fans marvel at. The big man ran the 40 yard dash at the NFL combine at an insane 4.98 seconds at 346 pounds. That’s a time usually reserved for guys 50 pounds lighter.
The Falcons targeted Poe in free agency, and think he would be even better slimmed down. He’s had a few weigh-in bonuses, including today’s $125,000 bonus. Additionally, Poe has had some back injuries that may improve if he works down his weight.
If Falcons NT Dontari Poe weighs in at 330 pounds or less as the team reports to camp today, he will earn a $125,000 bonus.

Poe has a number of these, and made another $125,000 last month when he weighed in under 340 pounds. The team obviously needs a big season from Poe, and they are expected to drop his snaps significantly after he played nearly every snap in Kansas City the last few seasons. With less workload and less weight, Dan Quinn thinks he can be an impact player. If he makes weight, we are one step closer to Poe realizing that goal.
