This is not what you wanted to see today, I’d wager, but it looks like Takkarist McKinley is not going to be ready to practice at the start of training camp.
I missed this tidbit originally in this great story about Takk, who has already become a national treasure thanks to his social media usage alone, but Dan Pompeii writes that McKinley is set to miss the opening days of training camp, though “no one will be surprised if Takk is back sooner than expected.”
This is not a wholly unexpected turn of events, if true. McKinley was always going to be out until training camp, and if he’s only going to miss a few days, it doesn’t do much more than set him back a little more. We all need to be realistic about the fact that McKinley may not be an immediate impact contributor for these Falcons, though I think he’ll have no time finding playing time.

As with any player coming off surgery, the concern comes with setbacks and complications. We have to hope McKinley is just a little limited at the moment, but the truth is that nobody knows until training camp and preseason hit just where Takk is and how much we’ll see him. Like everyone else, though, I can’t wait to see what lies ahead once he’s healthy.
