Calvin Johnson implies Julio Jones is the best receiver in the NFL

He at least has him in his top three.

Calvin Johnson is a living (and still young) legend. He walked away from the Lions because he was tired of losing, but he was legitimately one of the best receivers of his era, maybe ever, and thus his opinion on other receivers carries a lot of weight.

That’s why it’s noteworthy that when asked to comment on the best receivers in the NFL, he singled out three names, and appears to have insinuated that Julio Jones is the best out of all of them. I dunno, maybe we’re biased readers.

Here’s the recap from our friends at Cincy Jungle:

“Favorite wide receiver...oh that’s tough” said Johnson. “I have a friend in A.J. Green, who’s with the Cincinnati Bengals. And I like Antonio Brown, but it’s hard to pass on Julio Jones. He’s a beast.”

On one hand, this is a wishy-washy answer befitting a man who will someday analyze football for a living. On the other hand, he called Julio a beast, which is the highest compliment in the passage, and an apt descriptor.

It took a little while, but Julio is now recognized as one of the league’s best receivers, even by his peers. If he winds up with a career like Calvin Johnson’s but longer, I’ll be a happy Falcons fan, and so will you.
