Every now and then, I like to remind Falcons fans how far this franchise has come since the days of endless losing seasons, no back-to-back winning seasons ever, and a parade of awful draft picks and free agent signings. Today is one of those days!
What I’m going to ask you is pretty simple: Name the first quarterback to enjoy a winning record as the man at the helm for Atlanta. The only thing I’m going to tell you is that it happened a lot later than you’d think, so don’t go looking for say Randy Johnson as your answer.
UPDATE: The guy I’m thinking of didn’t accomplish this feat until late in the franchise’s existence, but I completely missed someone who did so much earlier...again by a single game. If you haven’t already guessed that man, start digging!
So who was the first quarterback to have a winning regular season record in Atlanta? Here’s a hint: He came very close to having a .500 record.
