The Atlanta Falcons punted just 48 times in 2016 — a testament to the offense’s ridiculous efficiency. No team punted fewer times.
But when called upon, Matt Bosher is easily one of the league’s better punters. The Falcons signed him to a five-year extension back in 2014, so he’ll be with the team for the foreseeable future.
Depth Chart
Starter: Matt Bosher
Atlanta selected Bosher in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft and was subsequently bashed once he had a few rough outings to start his professional career. It didn’t take long for the University of Miami product to prove his worth, however.
Don’t forget Bosher can probably play safety if needed as he has proven on multiple occasions he’s not afraid of taking down returners. Remember he blasted that New York Jets coach on the sideline back in 2013? Yeah — there’s a reason he’s the only punter on the Falcons roster.
The seventh-year player did miss a game last season as he nursed a hamstring injury. It should be no cause for concern as that was the only game Bosher missed in his career.
If the Falcons can even slightly mimic last year’s torrid offense, then Bosher may not have much work again in 2017.
