It’s fair to suggest that injury or no injury, fans have high expectations for rookie Takkarist McKinley. He’s a #fast and #physical pass rusher with a ton of upside, and while it’s usually not a good idea to anticipate huge results from a rookie defender, I think we can make an exception for McKinley.
While I think he’s going to fare well, though, does McKinley have it in him to break the franchise rookie sack record? Given the history of the Falcons, who have very few great pass rushers with huge sack totals in their 50-plus years as a franchise, you could be forgiven for thinking that would be a bit of a cakewalk.
If I’ve missed something, one of you eagle-eyed (or falcon-eyed) readers will surely tell me, but I believe Mike Pitts owns the rookie record with a pretty insane seven sacks in his first campaign back in 1983. Can McKinley best that? I have my doubts—even Beasley didn’t manage that many his first year—but I turn it over to you for discussion.
