Those who argue that college production doesn’t tell the story about pro fortunes—and they are generally correct—score another point today. The Falcons have waived rookie, undrafted free agent Darius English.
English is a long, quick pass rusher who put up nearly ten sacks in his senior season at South Carolina, which made him intriguing for a team that loves speed off the edge. There were concerns about his strength and and ability against the run which would have likely made him a situational pass rusher even if he had stuck around, but I figured he might have a shot at the practice squad. Instead, he’ll seek his fortunes elsewhere.
We’ll see how the Falcons elect to fill this roster spot—though you shouldn’t expect to see any familiar names this early in the summer—and expect to see something announced probably before the end of the day. We wish English well.
