On Friday, June 9, the AMB Group announced that they have once again begun decommissioning the Georgia Dome in order to be ready for its implosion, which is scheduled for Nov. 20 at 7:30 am EST.
The announcement comes on the heels of the roof at MBS being closed for the first time since construction began, an “exciting milestone” for the stadium, according to Steve Cannon, CEO of the AMB Group.
It will definitely be sad and strange to see such a historic building reach its ultimate demise, but the group has great plans for the space where we all grew up watching the Falcons play. The 13-acre piece green space will be transformed into “The Home Depot Backyard,” a space that will be used as a parking and tailgating destination for fans on gameday.
After it seemed like only bad news was coming out of the construction site of MBS, this announcement marks a huge moment for the stadium, the city of Atlanta, and the Atlanta Falcons.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set to open on Aug. 26 with the Falcons preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Does this announcement make you more optimistic that Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be done on time?
