Breaking down Falcons rookie minicamp on CBS 46

Our Jeanna Thomas joined CBS 46’s Emily Gagnon to talk about this crop of rookies.

The Atlanta Falcons had 59 rookies in over the weekend for minicamp, and I joined Emily Gagnon from CBS 46 to break down what we saw over Friday and Saturday.

We talked about how rookie minicamp is a big adjustment for these young players. They’re not only adapting to the NFL and trying to absorb the playbook and get a handle on the schemes, but they’re adjusting to new coaches and teammates.

We also discussed Takk McKinley and his ongoing rehab, and also how McKinley plans to continue to learn the playbook when he returns to UCLA on Sunday. Duke Riley’s speed, and his amazing hair, also came up.

Finally, we got to what this experience means for these young players and how it may motivate them differently knowing the Falcons’ commitment to putting the best guys on the field. These undrafted free agents can look to guys like Brian Poole and know that if they prove they can help the team win, they have a legitimate chance at landing a roster spot.
