If you’re looking for more good news after the Falcons ran up a 18 point lead to start Super Bowl LI, here it is: No team has ever come back from this kind of deficit before. And I do mean ever.
Up until the Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl back in February 2015, no team had ever come back from a double digit deficit to win a championship before. The Pats, of course, erased a 24-14 halftime lead by Seattle to ultimately triumph. Heading into halftime in this one, though, the Patriots only mustered a field goal and looked overmatched against a Falcons defense that has been magnificent since the bye week. I can’t say I expected this, but the Falcons are on the verge of making history, and history certainly favors them with a half hour of gametime left to go.
This time out, the Falcons have utterly dominated and will get the ball back to start the second half with a robust 21-3 lead. May it hold!
