The Falcons have never been more successful than they have been over the last decade, though they’ve still fallen short of the ultimate prize. From 2007-2016, Atlanta’s had six winning seasons, five playoff berths, two NFC Conference Championship berths, and a Super Bowl loss. Go ahead and look back in this team’s five decade history and see if you can find that kind of success.
For all that, here’s a bracing reminder of how far there is to go, thanks to many decades of mediocrity. Atlanta’s current all-time record as a franchise is 341-437-6, which means they’d need to win 96 more games just to claw their way back to .500. If you’d rather hang your hat on the playoffs, know that the Falcons are currently 9-13 and just need to make the playoffs as a Wild Card and win out to get back there. That’s pretty sweet.
Hopefully, someday, we’ll get there. It’ll matter a lot less to all of us if (when!) the Atlanta Falcons hoist that first Lombardi Trophy at last.
