Safety and apparent backup corner Ricardo Allen wins his first weekly MVP for a ridiculous game against the Minnesota Vikings. I’ll admit, I thought his Falcons career was likely over after getting cut before his rookie season. He’s sneakily been one of the best safeties in the league.

Despite lacking top corner Desmond Trufant and nickel Brian Poole, the Falcons didn’t allow a pass over 22 yards. Allen played heavy snaps at nickel, and honestly looked awesome despite being out of position.
Dan Quinn didn’t take anything out of the playbook for Trufant, who even got a chance to blitz.
Don't see Ricardo Allen blitz often. Very well-timed. Fills in the gap, while Beasley and Jarrett win their matchups. When this defense gets it right, they will swarm you. pic.twitter.com/pgWCpqSbIk

Allen again showed off his plus tackling, great coverage, and impressive ability to diagnosis the play.
Ricardo Allen instantly diagnoses the screen. Gets himself in excellent position and spins past Joe Berger. When you have a high football IQ, good things eventually happen. pic.twitter.com/ycgxdohW2x

We needed the defense to step up, and Allen did exactly that. It’s time for him to get the respect he deserves.
