By virtue of the short week and the run-up to the Christmas holiday, both Falcons-Saints games haven’t been quite the acid bath of fan venom we’re used to seeing. It shouldn’t be that way, of course, given that both of these teams are legitimate contenders and in prime position to make the postseason, potentially setting up a third matchup between the two. The last (and only) time the Falcons and Saints met in the playoffs, Atlanta dispatched them way back in 1991, the very beginning of my Falcons fandom.
If the trash talk has perhaps been a little muted and tame, the game itself is unlikely to be. It’s in New Orleans after Sean Payton’s Saints have lost three in the row to the Falcons for the first time in recent memory, and after a typically close game that saw New Orleans lose multiple players, get nailed with calls, and see the game lost when an irate Sean Payton ran on the field. They’ll be plenty motivated, and a healthy Falcons team should be equally motivated to run their record to 10-5 and earn a head-to-head tiebreaker with New Orleans. I’m expecting a damn fun game, though it’ll likely be frustrating and down to the wire, as per usual.
As you’re gearing up for your Christmas Eve, check out the info below. The game is just hours away!
Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints Week 16
Time: Sunday, December 24, 1 p.m. EST
Location: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana
TV Channel: FOX
Radio: 92.9 The Game
Odds: The Falcons are six point underdogs
Prediction: Falcons lose, 28-27
Key Questions: Will the Falcons get a lucky break and not have to face Michael Thomas today? Will the Saints be able to do much more on offense with Alvin Kamara in the fold? Will the Falcons be able to win ugly, again?
