Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan knows who butters his bread. He can’t do his job if his blockers don’t keep him upright. He can’t lead the offense if he’s getting hit by angry defenders every other play. So when the holidays roll around, he shows a little gratitude, because it always reciprocates.
ESPN’s Vaughn McClure wrote a piece detailing this years gift giving. Ryan gave the entire offensive line and the tight ends Big Green Egg grills. Message sent, message received:
"It shows that he has a lot of respect for us and what we do," right tackle Ryan Schraeder said. "We take a lot of pride in trying to keep him healthy and upright. We take it personal because his health is important to us, and we don't like him getting hit. We want him to be successful and get the ball to everyone else.
Ryan has plenty of money. He could just buy these guys a fancy watch or some other expensive, token gift. Instead he puts a little thought into the gifts and buys them something he knows they will like. In short, he’s a nice guy, and what’s not to like about that?
