The list may or may not surprise you

With only 2 games left in the season, it’s unlikely that the ratings of players by Pro Football Focus will change dramatically. With that said, I thought it would be interesting to see what the advanced stats site says about the best players on this 2017 roster. Some of the names may surprise you.

Alex Mack - 92.0

Arguably one of the best free agent signings for the Falcons in the past decade, Mack has been critical in turning the offensive line around. He’s exceptional in both pass blocking and run blocking and is one of the best centers in the league. This is no surprise.

Julio Jones - 90.7

Most fans probably would have picked this freak of nature as the likely top-rated player, and he’s close. Undoubtedly, some of his uncharacteristic drops this year have likely impacted his overall score. However, there’s little doubt that Julio is still one of the best in the league and is always capable of completely taking over a game.

Desmond Trufant - 88.3

For a player who has been criticized by many fans all year, Trufant has actually been quite good. Fans undoubtedly think about plays where he has been beat, but it’s easy to forget the plays where he shuts down a receiver completely - something he does regularly. He’s a top corner in the league and the Falcons are lucky to have him.

Matt Ryan - 88.1

The statistics are down for the franchise QB, but this has actually been one of Ryan’s best seasons according to PFF. His deep ball accuracy is down from last year, but he’s also one of the best in the league in adjusted completion percentage and in turnover worthy throws. His INT totals are higher than normal due to a nauseating number of tips and other factors outside his control. Any thoughts of moving on from this good/great QB are insane.

Adrian Clayborn - 87.5

While the Dallas domination game has certainly helped him, Clayborn has actually been one of our most consistent pass rushers all year. He’s lived up to that first round draft status this season and the Falcons may have to think seriously about trying to keep him in Atlanta after this season.

Other Notable scores

Grady Jarrett - 86.7

Devonta Freeman - 86

Keanu Neal - 85.2
