Deion Jones is very good. You can be forgiven for forgetting that this year at times when he was relatively quiet, but his talent comes through in brilliant bursts even during quieter weeks. When he’s on, as he was against the Saints, he’s simply one of the best linebackers in the NFL.
That’s why it is little surprise that Deion Jones has now achieved something only two other Falcons have in their careers, and he’s sharing space with perhaps two of the greatest players the team has ever employed in Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. The common thread between the three of them is that they’ve each won a Rookie of the Month and Player of the Week award.

With three games to go, Jones already has over 100 combined tackles, two interceptions, a sack, and one of the league’s highest coverage grades for an inside linebacker, per Pro Football Focus. He just turned 23 back in early November, and he’s the best linebacker in Atlanta since...Jessie Tuggle? It’s astonishing that the Falcons have two linebackers as good as De’Vondre Campbell and Jones right now, considering how weak their depth chart was in years prior.
These awards don’t necessarily point to a Hall of Fame future for Jones, but his talent is undeniable and he’s become a standout on an improving, athletic Falcons defense. If nothing else, he should be able to continue to victimize Drew Brees and the Saints until the future Hall of Fame quarterback (ew) hangs up his cleats, which will do nothing but endear Debo to Falcons fans.
