Desmond Trufant is out Sunday versus the Vikings, as expected

The team’s top cornerback will miss at least this Sunday’s game against the Vikings.

Your Atlanta Falcons may well beat the Minnesota Vikings, but they’ll need to do so without their top cornerback. Desmond Trufant is out, as expected.

Trufant has been terrific this season, so this is not an insignificant loss, even if we were all bracing for it. The Falcons will have the services of Robert Alford and Brian Poole, but they’ll also need to lean on C.J. Goodwin and Blidi Wreh-Wilson Sunday at times, which will come with its own set of challenges. Atlanta’s going to have to score to win, to put it mildly.

As for Trufant, we’ll have to hope he’s healthy and ready for action Thursday night against the Saints. That’s a deeply dangerous game to be missing a cornerback against, even if the New Orleans ground game has been a buzzsaw this year.
