Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman will see game action for the first time in weeks on Sunday against a nasty Minnesota Vikings defense. His backup, Tevin Coleman, has played well over the past few weeks. It can’t be easy for Freeman to watch Coleman play so well. Of course he wants the offense to perform well. But those are his carries. That’s his job.
Freeman is excited to be back and he’s got a healthy mindset:
I’m excited just to be back out here. Be in the mix of things. Just try to keep a level head through all this. Not get too excited, too emotional. I’ve been here before. It’s just a blessing to be back.
Coleman carried the ball 59 times in Freeman’s absence and he was productive. He racked up 200+ yards and scored four times, including two scores in last week’s victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Freeman wants nothing more than to step back into the starting role and produce. If his mindset will influence his ability to do just that, then what he had to say today is encouraging.
