The Atlanta Falcons won a game they absolutely needed to win today. It was a hard fought game played in less than ideal conditions. The Falcons now have to get ready for their first divisional opponent, and we’ll have plenty of coverage about the Carolina Panthers in the week ahead. But for now, there were injuries during today’s game, so let’s break them down.
Vic Beasley’s hamstring injury is barely in the rearview mirror. So when he limped off the field four plays into the game, the stomachs of Falcons fans everywhere collectively dropped. He got some treatment from the training staff and eventually returned to the game, which is encouraging.
Brian Poole got banged up in the first defensive drive of the second half. He hurt himself while tackling the ball carrier and was down on the turf for a while. Eventually he got up and walked off the field on his own.
Ahtyba Rubin went down with what looked to be a groin injury in the second half. He was flagged for roughing the passer on the same play. Takk McKinley and Austin Hooper were also hobbled in the fourth quarter. (Hooper was laid out from behind with a questionable defensive block.)
Devonta Freeman took a helmet to helmet hit on a near touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter. It looked like the trainers were treating his shoulder on the sideline, for what that’s worth.
To be clear, it’s not entirely clear to what extent anyone was actually “injured” today. Freeman’s potential shoulder injury appeared to be the most significant, but it wasn’t addressed during the post-game. We’ll just have to keep an eye on things as the week progresses.
