There are a few different ways to beat the New England Patriots, at least on paper. You could harass Tom Brady, eke out just enough offense to win, and stymie the Patriots’ high-flying aerial attack, as the Jets almost did. Or you could outgun them, as the Chiefs and Panthers did. If we’re being honest, the latter is the only sensible road to victory.
It certainly will be for the Falcons, as well. To beat New England, the Falcons will need to be able to move the ball at will against their miserable defense, running effectively with Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, and airing it out against a motley collection of cornerbacks who probably can’t stop Julio Jones. You’ve got to expect that New England will find their own success through the air and put up a healthy number of points, so the road to victory involves not getting bogged down moving the ball and committing turnovers, and instead playing like the 2016 Falcons offense so often did. I’d be down on that possibility if it weren’t for the matchup.
How do you envision the Falcons winning? Sound off late on this Friday night, if you would.
