The Falcons figured to bring a defensive lineman on board with Jack Crawford on injured reserve, but then Dan Quinn gestured toward the possibility that they could leave the line as is and bring aboard someone at another position. Never trust Dan Quinn on minor roster moves, I guess.
The team has promoted Taniel Tupou, who spent time with the Falcons in preseason and joined the practice squad, to the active roster. He joins fellow call-up Joe Vellano in shoring up the interior of the line, and this should probably be taken as a signal that Courtney Upshaw is not a 100% lock to play Sunday against Miami.
Falcons officially announce DL Taniela Tupou promoted from practice squad to take place on 53 man roster of Jack... https://t.co/Dmm7zVSqA5— vaughn mcclure (@vxmcclure23) October 10, 2017
Tupou has had some preseason production, but the 24 year old has yet to do anything of note in a regular season game. If he’s active Sunday, that may change, but he’ll figure to get very few snaps outside of special teams, especially with Vellano playing pretty well in 10-20 snaps per game over the last couple of weeks. Chances are good he won’t spent long on the active roster, but the team’s decision to keep guys like Vellano and Tupou around has paid off here in the early going.
Welcome to the team (formally), Taniela Tupou!
