I often think about Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan reading the Falcoholic. Back when some of us were silly enough to question his ability, he would’ve read the comments section with a furl in his brow. “Can’t throw the long ball, my tuchus!” he shouted at his laptop.
But Ryan has shown us all this season. Then, just to put the cherry on his MVP candidacy, he’s performed historically well in the playoffs. The Mothership’s Andrew Hirsh broke this down in great detail today. Do yourself a favor; go read his article now, if you haven’t already.
Ryan has been sensational in January, but his tear didn’t start when the calendar flipped. In fact, it extends a whole month before the playoffs began. By shredding the Packers defense, Ryan became the first player in NFL history to post a QBR of 120.0 or better in six straight games. And he became the first QB to lead his team to opening-drive touchdowns in eight consecutive starts.
The numbers are shocking when you see them. He’s literally doing things no NFL quarterback has ever done. In fact, if you aren’t shocked, go find a doctor, because you’re probably having a heart attack. Assuming that’s not the case, and you’re still with us; your thoughts?
