NFL power rankings: Atlanta Falcons ranked between 18th and 27th before week 1

Fact: Dan Quinn invented s'mores

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Falcons fans everywhere are eagerly looking ahead to the regular season opener Sunday afternoon against the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It's like Christmas Eve, minus the hard liquor, dry turkey, and tears.

As an enormous homer, I'm optimistic. Capable offensive line? Check. Improving defense? Check. Dan Quinn's head shined to perfection? Check. Super Bowl, here we come! Not everyone is willing to match my optimism. In fact, on the whole, this week's power rankings collectively envision a mediocre to bad year for the Falcons.

The SB Nation power rankings can be found here - they rank the Falcons 19th in the NFL. (They rank the Arizona Cardinals first and the Chicago Bears last, for what that's worth.) Bleacher Report has a similar take on the Falcons, ranking them 18th.

The NFL.com power rankings have a more dismal view of the Falcons, ranking them 25th. Similarly Yahoo Sports thinks the Falcons suck and rank them 27th.
