Being the guy who makes the roster as the 53rd man and then gets waived a day later can’t be fun, but that’s what Nick Williams is experiencing today.
Additionally, the Falcons have waived Nick Williams and signed former Browns WR Taylor Gabriel

Williams was a useful short range option for Matt Ryan a year ago and has familiarity with Kyle Shanahan’s offense, so it wasn’t shocking to see him stick around on this roster heading into 2016. With the Falcons scooping up ultra speedy receiver and returner option Taylor Gabriel, though, Williams finds himself on the way out.
Due to the somewhat convoluted new practice squad rules, Williams should be eligible for the practice squad. The Falcons haven’t filled up all 10 slots just yet, so if Williams clears waivers, he’ll likely wind up there, ready to fill in on the active roster in case of an injury. With J.D. McKissic also on the practice squad and developing, Atlanta has a lot of depth at wide receiver, at the very least.
Even if he doesn’t wind up in Atlanta, we wish Williams well. Scrappy days, our friend!
