Given the haphazard nature of the NFL, any list you put together is bound to change. This is doubly true for guys on the practice squad, as Coach Dan Quinn demonstrated in 2015 that he’ll rotate guys on and off the squad all year long.
For now, however, we have our initial list of the seven players who will start on the squad for the Falcons.
WR J.D. McKissic: The receiver turned heads this preseason with a 101-yard kick-off return for a touchdown. He also showed good hands, and many fans thought he’d sneak onto the 53-man roster. It’s nice to see him remain with the team.
DT Joey Mbu: The classic nose tackle played well this preseason and may be inching closer to a roster spot in 2017.
S Sharrod Neasman: The young safety was considered a good prospect coming out. fast.
CB Devonte Johnson: The 6’1” corner out of Weber State has the size the Falcons like.
QB Matt Simms: Simms looked decent during the preseason and could be an option as the backup in 2017.
TE D.J. Tialavea: Many fans thought Tialavea offered more as a blocker than Toilolo, so seeing him here is no surprise.
DE Nordly Capi: The young defensive end showed some promise this preseason, but was not quite ready to be a rotational guy just yet. A year or two on the practice squad may be good for him.
The team has only announced seven of the ten possible players, so we will update when the three remaining spots on the practice squad are filled.
What do you think of these initial signings?
