Paul Worrilow dealing with groin injury, seeking second opinion

Per ESPN’s Vaughn McClure, it could be a significant malady.

We didn’t really know that Paul Worrilow was injured until today, and certainly I had no inkling that it might be a serious injury.

The veteran linebacker had lost his starting job to Deion Jones this offseason, as anticipated, but had carved out a major role on special teams and figured to be more involved as a reserve linebacker going forward. As McClure notes, he played a team-high 25 special teams snaps on Sunday against the Raiders, and if he’s going to miss any length of time, the Falcons will have to replace those snaps with someone else.

It would be a shame for Worrilow to miss any time, so we’ll hope this isn’t serious, but the second opinion-seeking does not fill me with hope.

There’s a chance that if this is a significant injury, Worrilow could hit injured reserve to make room for new signing O’Brien Schofield. We’ll watch Worrilow’s status very closely from here on out.
