The Atlanta Falcons have a front office that fairly be described as controversial. Heading up that front office is embattled general manager and hair product afficionado Thomas Dimitroff. Dimitroff has made some fantastic personnel decisions during his tenure, but he's also made some puzzling ones. The decision to sign Alex Mack undoubtedly falls into the former category.

Pro Football Focus published their list of the ten recently-signed free agents who had the biggest impact in week one today. Falcons center Alex Mack was number five on that list. And here's what they had to say about him.

Mack was well on his way to one of his best seasons back in 2014 before tearing his ACL and missing the rest of the year. Kyle Shanahan didn't forget, and now Mack is once again in a scheme that suits him perfectly in Atlanta. The Falcons' run game never quite got off the ground against the Bucs, but don't blame the center; Mack was downgraded only five times all day in 65 snaps.

Mack certainly was impressive against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, even as the Falcons struggled to generate a running game. That was a relief given how much Jake Matthews struggled. It was also a relief because we invested a lot of money in Mack. (Mack will turn 31 in November, and he just signed a five year, 45 million dollar contract.)
