Ra’Shede Hageman, Mike Person inactive versus Buccaneers

Both are genuine surprises, for different reasons.

The Falcons have announced their list of inactives for today’s game against the Buccaneers, and there’s a couple of big surprises on the list.

Hageman is a legitimate surprise. The third year defensive lineman has been moved around the line this summer, and he unfortunately has not had an overly productive career to this point. That said, he’s still got evident talent, even if his motor runs hot and cold, and this figured to be his breakout year if he was ever going to have one.

Instead, Hageman is on the bench for this game, and we have no idea what exactly sparked it. Courtney Upshaw will be the big beneficiary here, and we’ll just have to hope this is a one week deal and that Hageman spends the rest of the season wreaking havoc. This is ample reason to worry about that outcome, however.

Person is also surprising. He and Wes Schweitzer have evidently been leapfrogged by Ben Garland, who spent time on the team’s practice squad a year ago. Person, meanwhile, goes from the starting center in 2015 to an inactive guard on gameday in Week 1, which tells you a lot about how the offensive line has changed.

Otherwise, there are no shockers here. We’re just about an hour away from kickoff, so stay tuned for the game.
