It was hot out there today. I mean, it’s hot out there every day, but today was especially brutal. Still, David Walker and I braved the heat to bring you all of the key information you need to know from Day 9 of Falcons training camp.
David kept an eye on the defense today, so I’m going to focus exclusively on the offense and what they did today.
Also, David and I did Facebook Live from the facility after practice, and you can enjoy that below.
Offense:
- The offensive timing is still a work in progress. Remember that the team is continuing to install new elements of the scheme each day, which is part of the issue. It’ll be interesting to see how the team looks in preseason action, and that will be a better gauge for where exactly this offense is at this point.
- The battle for the last two or three receiver spots is going to be tight. Eric Weems, Nick Williams, Aldrick Robinson, David Glidden, Devin Fuller, J.D. McKissic and Lance Moore are all battling for two or three spots. They’re all playing like it, too.
- J.D. McKissic had possibly the most impressive catch of camp so far.

- Nick Williams continues to look reliable as a receiver, and Aldrick Robinson seems to be getting a lot of first-team looks, also.
- Lance Moore looked good in his first day on the field with his new team. He got some first team reps and caught one pass over the middle from Ryan.
- Austin Hooper is developing nicely, and he looks like he could be a legitimate red zone threat.
- I can’t say this enough — Tevin Coleman looks consistently great. The team appears to be committed to getting both Devonta Freeman and Coleman more involved in the passing game and getting them the ball in space, which should create mismatches for defenders.
- It’s very different to watch Alex Mack call protections than it was watching Mike Person last preseason. There’s just a whole other level of confidence there with Mack.
Of note:
- There’s a preseason game on Thursday, so I’m going to do our next Facebook Live mailbag on Wednesday, probably around 7:00 p.m. Make plans to tune in and ask your questions in the comments.
- Terron Ward got dinged today, but we didn’t get an update on him from Dan Quinn after practice. We’ll keep an eye on him tomorrow.
