Falcons training camp bubble watch: Tackles, tackles, tackles

Tackle is one of the most settled positions on the Falcons roster.

NFL: Atlanta Falcons-Training Camp Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

There are few settled positions on this roster, but tackle is probably one of the ones we can feel most confident about, for a few different reasons.

Safe: Jake Matthews, Ryan Schraeder, Bryce Harris

On the Bubble: Tom Compton, Laurence Gibson

Matthews and Schraeder are the slam dunk starters, and one of the better tackle duos in the NFL today. Harris is a capable enough swing tackle who, barring a major surprise, should return to that role again in an offense he’s comfortable in. I view all three as safe, frankly.

That leaves Compton and Gibson fighting over a potential fourth tackle slot. Compton has played some inside already and is probably the favorite for one of the backup spots, while Gibson hasn’t stood out early. There could be other players currently projected to play on the interior in the picture here, but in my mind, it’ll come down to Compton or Gibson at tackle.

We’ll get to guard shortly, and as you’ll see, the picture is much more muddled there.
