Ever few days, we’ll take a look at key positions and see who might be on the bubble. Today, wide receiver.
Safe: Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu, Justin Hardy
On the Bubble: Aldrick Robinson, Devin Fuller, Eric Weems, Corey Washington, David Glidden, Nick Williams, Chris King, J.D. McKissic, Jordan Leslie
Good lord, the Falcons have a lot of receivers. This is not unusual for training camp, and history suggests that there will be one or two of these guys who are tremendous standouts during camp and preseason, and that neither of them will stick around.
Why do I say that? Mostly because I’ve lived through the likes of (inhales deeply) Brandyn Harvey, Kevin Cone, Bernard Reedy, and a half dozen other names that will spark a sad memory or two.
Your early favorites here are Aldrick Robinson, who has been impressive as a deep threat early in camp, and one of super scrappy Nick Williams, potential returner Devin Fuller, and core special teamer Eric Weems. If the Falcons carry six wide receivers, expect two of those names to make it, with a small chance that someone like King, Glidden, or McKissic could latch on.
Any way you slice it, anticipate that the Falcons will be trimming a lot of these names between now and the end of August.
