Vic Beasley dealing with a shoulder injury, but Falcons may not rest him

The talented second year pass rusher is dealing with an ailment.

NFL: Preseason-Washington Redskins at Atlanta Falcons Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

We all knew Vic Beasley was dealing with a shoulder injury, and that’s why he missed the second preseason game. What wasn’t immediately clear is whether Beasley would rest again this week versus the Miami Dolphins, and that is still unclear.

Vaughn McClure is asking a fair question in this article, given that Beasley is going to be a key cog in this defense and any time an injured player gets into a preseason game, you have to ask whether it increases of their risk of exacerbating said injury. The Falcons can’t afford to lose Beasley, and whether the AC joint injury is minor or not (and by all accounts it is), it is a shoulder injury. Are the snaps he’d get as valuable as ensuring he remains healthy?

The Falcons will likely wind up making a game time decision on Beasley, and while I know he could use work, I hope they’ll shy away from playing him unless he’s very close to 100% healthy. His talent and offseason growth have given me enough confidence in him that I don’t mind him missing out on one more preseason game.
