The Atlanta Falcons begin training camp next week and I know you're all ready to put the offseason behind you. It's been long time since we've seen the Falcons take the field. Granted, the regular season is still six weeks away, but now we're starting to see everything come together.
Training camp is an interesting time to be a fan. The storylines are sometimes hard to follow. For example, a player that's thrilling the coaching staff one day can be summarily cut the next. On some level we have a sense of what's likely to play out at training camp. But sometimes we're surprised, and that's what I want to talk to you about tonight.
Heading into this year's training camp, what are the likely surprises? I'm going to go out on a limb and throw this one out there: Wes Schweitzer wins the right guard job outright. Wes gets a lot of credit for his intelligence, both on and off the field. The Falcons assistant offensive line coach, Keith Carter, once coached Wes. (It's almost like they targeted him; crazy concept, eh?) What's more, our guard situation is just dysfunctional enough to create an opening.
So what say you Falcoholics? Hit me with your boldest, most atypical prediction for Falcons training camp! The crazier, the better.
