These lists have generated quite a bit of discussion, and I expect that to continue today as cover the history of one of the strongest positions the Falcons have fielded over the years. I am, of course, talking about receiver.
From the stellar and long career of Roddy White to Julio Jones' brilliance, the Falcons haven't lacked for quality options in recent years, and they historically have had at least one standout since the 1970's, except for a brief period in the 1980's. Some of these players are already in the team's Ring of Honor, while others are definitely going to belong there when all is said and done.
Here's my top three.
- Roddy White
- Andre Rison
- Julio Jones
There are so many genuinely great candidates for this list, and it pains me to leave the likes of Terrance Mathis and Alfred Jenkins off, but here I'm going for true greatness. Roddy has every franchise receiving record both because he spent a decade with Atlanta and because he was awesome for seven of those seasons, Rison's numbers are simply eye-popping given the time he spent with the Falcons and who was throwing him the football, and Julio is already climbing within striking distance of everyone besides Roddy White and is genuinely the most talented player on this list. If you prefer Jenkins' tremendous value as a deep threat or the consistency and production Mathis brought to the table, I respect that, but that's my reasoning.
What does your list look like?
