Brandon Boykin injury rumor: Hip issues a factor in Falcons passing?

Take this one with a grain of salt, but...

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

I hesitated to take this on, because it's effectively third-hand information, but we've all been looking to understand why the Falcons passed on Brandon Boykin, and this might help to explain it.

As a former Steeler and current Steelers defensive backs coach, Carnell Lake would presumably be in a position to know that Brandon Boyking is dealing with a hip injury, but as you're reading this article, you'll note this information was filtered through a couple of different sources. That gives me some considerable pause, but you'll note that Vaughn McClure's piece after the Falcons passed on Boykin mentioned a rumor about the hip, as well, and there's not many other good reasons to pass on a young, talented cornerback with a legitimate history of production.

If the hip is this major of a concern, Boykin could well end up without a home throughout the year, which is a depressing thought. It would, of course, give some context to Atlanta's decision.
