The Atlanta Falcons have a few pieces who are truly irreplaceable. Over the next couple of days, we’ll discuss who the team can least afford to lose on both offense and defense.
My vote would go to Julio Jones, followed closely by Matt Ryan. Julio is such a fearsome weapon that he elevates the rest of the offense when he’s on the field, and if he's gone and you’re trotting out Mohamed Sanu, Justin Hardy, and Aldrick Robinson/Nick Williams/Devin Fuller/whoever as your top three receivers, it impacts the offense in a real and significant way. Losing Ryan, meanwhile, means you’re stuck with a backup quarterback who is going to be vastly inferior, which also has a profound impact on how the offense will function.
I think you can make a solid case for a couple of other players (Devonta Freeman, Jake Matthews, Ryan Schraeder, now Alex Mack), but it comes down to Ryan or Julio. Do you agree?
