The Atlanta Falcons are looking at linebackers in the first round, which is no great secret. What is a secret is just who they'll pick, but Georgia's Leonard Floyd is hoping to sway the team into taking him, and he did a nice job of pushing that agenda in a private workout for the team over the weekend.
Per D. Orlando Ledbetter at the AJC:
The Falcons, who hold the 17th overall pick in the draft, worked out Floyd as an outside linebacker. He weighed 235 pounds, down nine pounds from his combine weight.
Floyd had a strong showing and the Falcons were impressed with his length and speed.
On the plus side, Floyd is a tremendous athlete, the team has already talked up his positional versatility, and he's shown flashes (at least) of being a capable pass rusher and coverage option. Considering the team's myriad problems at linebacker, a jack of all trades like Floyd might make a lot of sense, even if the downside is that he's pretty light and was never massively productive at Georgia. I'd prefer Shaq Lawson or Reggie Ragland, personally, but I do think Floyd would be a very intriguing piece of this defense for Dan Quinn to work with, and I'd be happy with the selection.
How about you?
