I alluded to this last week, but this is probably the least clear Falcons draft since 2012, when the team had no first round pick and limited selections. Atlanta's picking #17 in a weird draft class without a ton of truly elite players, but with plenty of guys who fit the first-to-second round profile, making a trade down possible if they don't go for one of the six-to-eight potential picks we've identified in recent weeks. That assumes, of course, that those potential picks are even remotely close to the Falcons' actual draft board.
The important takeaway here isn't that the Falcons are confused about what they'll be doing--they surely have plans, contingency plans, and contingency plans for their contingency plans, all of which better be brilliant--but that we really do not know this time around. That mystery makes this draft a little more fun, unless you need to be write about a pick minutes after it happens, like your friends at The Falcoholic.
We're just a few days away from the draft, so keep those guesses coming and enjoy the uncertainty. As long as the Falcons land a great first rounder (or pick up a few more picks), we'll be happy.
