NFL Free Agency opens today at 4 p.m., and the Falcons should be active

It's time for the Falcons to go get some good players. Please.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

We're just eight hours away from the start of free agency, and the Falcons are probably cooking up something. The question is whether we'll like the taste.

Make no mistake: Whether they stick to their promised strategy of landing few or no splashes and dive for value, or surprise us all and land a couple of huge names, the Falcons have to finally fare well in free agency. That's not because free agency is where great teams build, but simply because the Falcons have too many holes to rebuild solely through the draft, and there are a handful of players in this class who could be impactful for the next great (?) Atlanta team. It is also, by far, the most exciting and positive development we're going to see with this team in the next few weeks.

Will we see any signings the first day? My guess is yes, and with any luck, it'll be ones the fanbase likes a great deal. We need some good news.
