Injury update: Julio Jones has turf toe and beat reporter Jeanna Thomas is worried

None of the injuries seem serious, but Desmond Trufant wasn’t seriously injured either.

Like many recent weeks, the Atlanta Falcons had injuries to some major starters this week. While we just said goodbye to Desmond Trufant for the year and Adrian Clayborn for the month, none of these injuries are expected to last too long.

Julio Jones sounds healthiest of them all, per Dan Quinn.

Turf toe is one of those things like a hamstring injury: a player can miss no time or eventually end up on injured reserve. The team sounds optimistic on this one, and we are happy they aren’t following up going 3-4 in the last 7 games with major injury news to their best player.

When we reached Falcoholic beat reporter Jeanna Thomas, who covered the game from the press box, she was far less optimistc.

Players like Jonathan Ogden and Deion Sanders blamed turf toe injuries on their eventual retirements, and it has ended the career of other football players as well. When those injuries are bad, they are very bad. Of course, Matt Ryan had turf toe awhile ago and was back within two games.

We hope the team has good reason to be optimistic.

Matthews is not expected to practice this week and may be a game time decision against the St. Louis Rams. His backup Tom Compton was pretty terrible. If he’s out, losing Mohamed Sanu won’t sting as much with Taylor Gabriel and Justin Hardy starting to contribute.
