It’s an age-old question heading into the playoffs: Should you rest your starters, or not? We now know Dan Quinn’s pretty emphatic answer to that, which he gave on Sirius XM NFL today:

This is not a surprising stance for a couple of reasons. First of all, Dan Quinn is a man of boundless enthusiasm who would probably rather never sit a starter if he could help it, especially if they are both fast and physical. Second of all, the team needs a win to ensure they lock up a bye and the #2 seed, and New Orleans is not going to sit idly by and let the Falcons accomplish that, given their pride is at stake.
We all remember the 2012 fiasco, where Mike Smith decided to be aggressive and get his starters plenty of playing time in Week 17 against the Buccaneers, only to see the team lose anyways and John Abraham suffer an injury that left him limited the entire postseason. With something at stake, the Falcons are in a very different boat this time around, but god, I hope they come out of Week 17 healthy.
