It was only a few short years ago that the 49ers were Super Bowl bound after beating the Falcons in the 2012 NFC Conference Championship Game, a bitter event for Atlanta fans everywhere. Now the Falcons are going to play the 49ers again, and this time, the 49ers are awful.
They’re so awful that the Falcons are currently favored to beat them by 11.5 points, a number so absurd that I rubbed my eyes like a cartoon character before typing it. That means that Vegas is anticipating the Falcons will win by about two touchdowns right out of the box.
You can’t argue with that. The 49ers are bad and need another offseason, at least, before they’ll be good, and they’re facing a Falcons team that just drubbed their NFC West counterparts by a score of 42-14. If this one isn’t a bloodbath, I will honestly be a little disappointed.
Let’s hope that this winds up reflecting reality, or that the Falcons win by three or more scores. Blowouts are good for our collective blood pressure, after all.
