Revisiting the top Falcons-Rams Week 14 matchups

It wasn’t pretty (for the Rams).

The Los Angeles Rams were no match for the Atlanta Falcons, as they were dominated in every phase. The Falcons moved to 8-5 with the 42-14 blowout win.

Prior to the game, we took a look at the top three matchups. Let’s revisit them.

Aaron Donald versus Chris Chester

There’s no shame in losing to Donald, who’s likely the league’s top interior defender. The good news is he didn’t completely slaughter Chester, in what appeared to be a mismatch on paper. Still, the Rams defensive tackle was disruptive as he notched a sack to go along with two hurries. It could’ve been a lot, lot worse.

Taylor Gabriel versus the poor sap who has to cover him

With Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu out, Gabriel was the Falcons’ leading receiver, hauling in three passes for 82 yards and a touchdown. The score came on a 64-yard bomb with Gabriel getting behind the Los Angeles secondary and trotting in for an easy score. It’s what we’ve come to expect from the speedster at this point in the season.

Vic Beasley versus Rob Havenstein

Beasley was a terror on Sunday, and Rob Havenstein could do nothing to stop him. Atlanta’s second-year pass rusher piled up three sacks while adding a forced fumble, recovery and ensuing score. It was easily a career day for Beasley, who is now tied for first in the league with 13.5 sacks on the year.
