The Atlanta Falcons are still, as of today, a playoff team. That can change in a hurry, though, and things did not go as well as we might have hoped over the course of the bye week.
The Falcons were, by virtue of their record, the third seed in the NFC last week. With the Lions winning, they’re now lining up as the 4th seed, and even the NFC South tightened up a bit thanks to the Buccaneers beating the Chiefs. There isn’t a game left on the schedule that Atlanta can afford to take for granted, unfortunately.
The Lions and Vikings both won (oh my!), the Cowboys and Seahawks won, and (grr) the Bucs won too. I don’t need to tell you that it’s not ideal.
Here’s the full playoff picture, as of today.
NFC Playoff Picture
- Dallas Cowboys (9-1)
- Seattle Seahawks (7-2-1)
- Detroit Lions (6-4)
- Atlanta Falcons (6-4)
- New York Giants (7-3)
- Washington Redskins (6-3-1)
As long as the Falcons make the playoffs, the seeding isn’t going to be the most important thing here. No bye week and a matchup against a surging New York Giants team isn’t exactly what we’d hope for, though, so we’ll hope they get rolling again, starting this week.
